Tyree keeps No. 1 spot after the USHA 1-wall juniors nationals - aims for the USHA 3-wall juniors nationals-Update!

Tyree Bastidas, who beat I. Acosta in the 2010 USHA Nationals junior one-wall final in two games, will begin his 153th week as No.1 and will further distance himself, from other top juniors players, for total number of weeks as world No. 1.

Bastidas is the first player to establish a career list with 153 weeks at No. 1 in all three handball versions in USHA history.

Bastidas did it again on July 10, 2010. He beat Acosta to win the 1-wall USHA crown. That makes 9 consecutive singles titles, adding to the record Bastidas already holds. He has been in 9 of the past 10 junior singles finals in 1-, 3-, and 4-wall championships since the summer of 2007.

He faced one of the largest fields in his division when he played his last one-wall juniors nationals in 2010. He knew everyone was looking to knock him off. It’ was the last opportunity for junior players around the world to beat him and make history. Stephen Cooney ventured from Ireland to challenge Tyree for the first time. Cooney pushed the king to the limit. Don’t let the scores full you. Cooney was the only player to score double digits on Tyree, and was the only player with potential to force a third game.

Irish players, Declan Smith and Stephen Cooney will follow Tyree to California and expect to meet him in the finals of the juniors 3-wall championships in Venice Beach, California.

Tyree is now focus on his last juniors 3-wall nationals in California, where he’ll play with his friends for the last time and retire from the juniors ranks.

He also expects a record number of players in his division, who will be looking to make history by beating him in his last junior tournament.

3-Wall Juniors Underway in Venice Beach

VENICE, Calif. - The marine layer kept Venice Beach cool until the early afternoon before the sunny skies opened up to bring large crowds down to the World Famous Venice Boardwalk and Muscle Beach.

The largest turnout in nearly a decade (80 Players!) needed almost seven hours of continuous match play on the first day, finishing as the sun started setting on the Pacific Ocean.
